What separates a great holiday from any other holiday? Some might say it’s the hotel, others might tell you it’s your travel companion. I say, it’s the destination. Sure, various factors come together to make a memorable time but if this fundamental thing is wrong, then there’s only so much your choice of hotel or travel buddy can do for you.
When you have faith based needs in your daily life, finding a location that caters to them is important, if you are to truly relax. You go on holiday and enjoy things that have intentionally been made easy or go through the hassle of adjusting and trying to make do.
I have compiled a list of my Top 5 destinations you are sure to enjoy!
01
Zanzibar, Tanzania
Tropical adventure
Are you looking for a tropical paradise with white sand beaches, palm trees and coconut water? – Then this is a great choice for you!
Zanzibar is a semi autonomous region of Tanzania located in the East African Indian Ocean. Over 95% of its population are Muslims, so there is no shortage of halal food, the lifestyle and values of the locals are in line with yours and there are many local mosques to visit for prayer.
There are many fun and halal activities available here. Spend a day visiting stone town to explore the old souk alleyways filled with local art and crafts and enjoy local cuisine at the night market.
Take a spice tour to connect with nature and understand how things are grown, from cloves, to nutmeg and even coffee. It’s not called Spice Island for nothing!
Take a 1.5hr tour through the Lush Jozani Forest, (the only National park) to spot the Red Colobus monkeys which are exclusive to Zanzibar or if you really just want to relax and put your feet up, head to the beach for some cool ocean breeze.

The
Maldives
A true lover’s heaven
This is a wonderful destination that’s both breathtaking and a gem in halal tourism. It’s a honeymoon hotspot due to its luxury resorts and serene environment. Privacy is a priority in Maldivian hospitality and that’s what makes it ideal for couples and even families who value modesty. Whether you’re in need of a private villa with an enclosed pool or rooms with beach front access, you will find them aplenty.
Some resorts offer ladies only pools or beach areas and couples can enjoy private excursions. Local islands are alcohol free by law, the food is halal and the private resort islands can make accommodations on request. Many resorts also have prayer facilities on site. You can enjoy various water activities and sports, take cultural tours, cooking classes or excursions.
03
Kuala
Lumpur,
Malaysia
Urban Adventure
For a couple of years, Malaysia has retained the top spot for Muslim Friendly Destination of the Year (Organization of the Islamic corporation) at the Halal Travel Awards and has been setting the benchmark embodying the perfect destination. It even has an Islamic Tourism Center under its Ministry of Tourism, Arts & Culture tasked with developing this sector. So it’s no wonder Muslims flock here every year due to the level of comfort, inclusion and reception we experience.
There is no shortage of activities here, from visiting the bazaars, museums, experiencing local culture to enjoying the diverse cuisine with Malaysians, Chinese, Indian & European influences, street food and even attending curated wedding events to experience their traditions. Modest fashion enthusiasts would be enamored by Malaysia as it’s one of the top producers. Malls have prayer facilities and some even have private nursing facilities for mothers so shoppers can literally be out all day with no issues.
For a more serene trip, escape the city onto the neighboring islands to take in the natural beauty.
04
Egypt
Family Adventure
Located in North Africa, Egypt is a great destination to explore alongside your family as it holds some of the world’s most popular attractions and the environment is safe and comfortable. See and learn about the famous pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx, just 10 mins from Cairo; camel riding & the desert visits are sure to make memorable moments. Just make sure to dress for the heat, the desert heat is unforgiving.
Go beyond the Capital of Cairo to Luxor, known as the world’s biggest open air museum. Enjoy the unique local dishes like Koshary (a mix of pasta, lentils, rice, onions and toppings) and Molakhiya (a green slimy leafy soup) which is prized for its health benefits (my Egyptian friend swears by it). To kick back, stay at one of the many all inclusive resorts in Hurghada. Plenty of sunshine, halal food, family friendly spots, cultural and historical excursions all in a safe and inclusive environment.
05
Dubai
Modern Luxury
When you think of luxury, think of Dubai, with its famous Burj Khalifa (world’s tallest building) and Palm Jumeirah archipelago (Artificial Islands) as beacons of opulence. Spoil yourself with a trip here to experience world class shopping, luxurious hospitality services, a refined culinary experience and more.
There’s no shortage of Halal fun either, enjoy a trip to Ski Dubai (I know…..skiing in the tropical desert eh, who would have thought?) , go dune bashing on a desert safari (if you do not mind the adrenaline rush; i would personally be sitting this out next time, thank you!) , a boat cruise on the Dubai marina, explore the beautiful miracle garden, see the Dubai mall fountain show, visit the aquarium or museum of the future.
Some of these activities are free, so don’t be put off by the glamour of the city, budget travel is still possible, there is something for everyone. You would also enjoy a visit to the Souk. Yes, there’s a shiny gold Souk, but it goes beyond that. Other sections provide you with endless rows of vibrant local herbs, spices, nuts, bakhoor and even perfume oils. A perfume lover would have a great time here as you can even customize your oils in fancy gift bottles to make great take home gifts.
Travel is an amazing thing and there is always a job to be done. Whether that is experiencing other cultures, having fun or wanting to unplug. It’s important you are intentional about the destination and what it has to offer you. That’s what we do best at Husna vacations, curating all-inclusive Halal trips so you don’t have to worry about any detail. You can view our upcoming trips here.
